Default VI41-1: Autodesk® VIZ Lighting: Get a Grip

    Instructor: Ted Boardman – tbdesign

Class Description: Lighting is probably the most difficult task in visualization. Approaching lighting from the viewpoint of a photographer or film director allows more flexibility in achieving convincing renderings. Learn lighting techniques that will help you add visual interest to scenes and increase your overall productivity. Learn how to place and adjust both Standard lights in an exterior scene and Photometric lights in an interior scene. We'll focus on ways to control and optimize lighting setups including shadows, attenuation, include/exclude options, and other functions. An outdoor-scene exercise will show you how to use the Daylighting system as a Standard light setup with the use of fill lights to simulate light bounced in the atmosphere. We'll also cover options for speeding renderings by optimizing shadow calculations. For interior scenes, you'll learn to place and control Photometric lights with Radiosity rendering to automatically calculate the bounced light. Methods of adjusting the lighting to maximize rendering efficiency will also be an important part of this session. This lab will benefit users who want to improve their control of lighting in Autodesk VIZ with intermediate-level techniques.
