    Default GS314-1L: Free Your FDO

Instructors: Bradford Heasley and Derrick Oswald and Neal Niemiec

Class Description: AutoCAD Map 3D and Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise users in all industries and disciplines need to gain access to large amounts of geospatial data across divisions. The sharing of data for editing, planning, mapping, and analysis is a simultaneous event for most enterprise users. Feature Data Object (FDO) technology enables Map 3D and MapGuide Enterprise software to manage geospatial data from small file‐based to enterprise‐level databases. This class offers a deeper understanding of the value of differing database technologies utilized through FDO such as SDF, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle, and provides how-to knowledge for extending existing open-source providers. We’ll discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each database and provide an example of creating an FDO provider from scratch. You’ll dive deeper into best practices and workflows around simultaneous multiuser editing where FDO takes advantage of versioning and long transactions.
