Default Civil3D to 3dMAX missing link in Civil View

Can anyone solve this mystery: why does the link on the left side show up but not the link on the right side? any better suggestions on how to get a bridge to come into CivilView cleanly?

Default Re: Civil3D to 3dMAX missing link in Civil View

    and the answer was...
because the subassemblies are mismatched to their sides (right on left side) it creates a MAX mesh object with the surface normals pointed inward which are then removed by backface culling.

the solution was to select the subobject mesh and flip the normals outward again.
