Default how to vary feature width in plots

I need to plot various parts of a map but i can't seem to alter "line" width. The feature lines print way too thin. I used to (still need to) plot from model space by just grabbing a window and plotting - no title block, scale, etc needed as they're for my markup only. Is there any way to bump up the way features plot without altering the style of the feature layer?

i should also emphasize that I'm plotting SPATIAL data, I can manipulate what little dwg objects are in the map. Also, I need an attached xref to print...what little exploring I did into plot emplates seemed to exclude xrefs fom the plot as well as require everything to be printed from a layout.

As far as Xrefs -- as long as they are attached, loaded, and on a plottable layer, they wil lbe no different from any other dwg entity for plottting purposes.

Plotting from a layout is the 'best' way to plot, for varying values of best - certainly the most repeatable and straightforward, but it's quite possible to create a plotted hardcopy from model space (using the model space tab, not just working in model space inside a viewport). the scario you describe is something I often do, plot by window to a hardcopy printer for checking, markup, and discussion.

I've tried manipulating the plot template, ive tried styling the layer to have greater line widths but nothing changes...in both the display model and on paper the lines (line features actually) are razor thin. barely visible on the plot. how can I beef up the line thickness in a plot? please help.
