    Cool Fun with Scripter

Currently I'm working on a project that is allowing me to experiment with stuff, so I have been using scripter hotspots to open doors and help making transitions on stairways from one level to the next.

I am wondering if other folks use scripter for funky stuff. How are you using scripter??

You can walk (er, fall) down ladders but can't walk up them. I'm a little worried about a pogo-effect though - walk off/down ladder, land on hotspot, triggers move back to top.

We use hotspots to open glass sliding doors. It's cool for a live presentation but those are rare. For exported animations you need to link the animation to a timeline task.

I've been playing with an elevator off and on for a while now. I don't really have a use for it, just playing. Hotspot to open doors, you go in and press a number button for the floor you want, which runs animations to close the doors, move the lift, open the doors. The problem I have is it won't let me get out of the lift unless I go really fast and end up miles away. Trying to walk through the doors slowly just re-sets everything twilight zone style as if you just arrived at the floor. I think it's something to do with a hotspot setting but I can never spend enough time on it to work it out. Scripts might be logical in the end but man do they appear to behave anything but that at first.

I thought it would be fun to program this on a few models if you were leaving to a new job. Cruel and harmless (within reason). But yeah its working so far for doors and stairways. It is hit or miss to prevent the looping from occurring.

Also, I am having trouble getting the scripts to show up on my freedom models. The model I've made is a reference model for the client. I figured these little interactive pieces would make the model friendlier.

My scripts work in Freedom complete with loops... I'm saving as nwd 2011 rather than publishing, and opening them in Freedom 2012. Don't forget to enable scripts in freedom.

Thanks that worked. I found a bug though. This doesn't work in freedom 2013.

Can any of you that are successully using scripter tell me whether or not it's possible to use an on collision event to hide a door that's part of an NWC exported from Revit? I've tried on numerous occasions and each time given up. If it is possible, could you provide any guidance on how to implement it? I don't need the doors to swing opening or anything fancy, just hide when walking around a model so that they don't block you with collision detection on.

I would recommend using the door itself as a hotspot with a small radius to trigger a transform to hide it. I find Hotspots the easiest to work with.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there may be hundreds of doors, and from what I can see you need to manually set up a hotspot for each door, whereas it would seem easier to tie the on-collision even to a selection set. The issue then though, which I guess is why you suggested a hot-spot for a single door, is that all doors are hidden, although I could live with this. Any idea how to get the doors to transform back, kind of on an "off-collision" event?
