Default Can you Tag Thermal Coefficient (U value or R) ?

We can pull the thermal coefficiant from walls etc and put it in schedules as it appears in the field list.

When trying to create a multi category tag to show U-value, the Heat Transfer Coefficient ( U or R) field doesn't appear in the field list.

So far I can only see a workaround by manually copying it into the description field...not very BIM, and not a good idea if the structure is edited.

Also I want to keep the description clear for use in multi category tags to give instructions to the contractor.
Building control approval seems to go faster if the u-value is shown on the drawing for each wall type etc., they dont really like cross referencing to look up the schedule!

Has anyone found a way to directly access the Heat Transfer Coefficient from a tag?

The Heat Transfer Coefficient and Thermal Resistance are specific properties of their respective system families (i.e. walls, floors, roofs...) and therefore not available in multi-category tags. You will need to create a new wall tag with these parameters assigned.

Multi-category tags parameters are limited to those parameters that are shared among all families in addition to your own custom shared parameters. If the information is specific to a family category, the multi-category tag is not able to report it.

    I see
So I will need a separate tag for walls and roofs etc to report U-values or R - values.
Presumably theres no way to combine these in one tag type?
    Thanks for the explanation.

I have tagged things like this by entering the values under each material in predefined categories.

There is no rule to say you can't use the fields in the identity of materials to enter these figures if you need them (see attached image).

Then all you need to do is make a custom material tag and use the appropriate labels so that when you use the tag it displays the values you want.
