Default 2013 service pack AFTER 2014 was released?

I had a fatal error yesterday and was notified that there is a 3rd service pack available for 2013 that I never knew about. After installing the update, my 2013 build number is now 20130531_2115. So apparently this was just released? I've never heard of Autodesk releasing an update for a previous release after the current release had already come out. Is that unusual?

Yes, unusual but probably an indication of the severity of the issues and how many users are reporting them AND still using 2013 on projects, not upgraded to 2014 yet. I have a couple clients that are still using 2012 on projects (long term projects) and many still using 2013.

2014 introduced a new network licensing format too right? That is why we haven't upgraded any of our projects to 2014 as we need to get new license servers in place first.

Unfortunately, I also have a couple of projects in 2011 and attempting to upgrade them to 2013 caused a lot of issues (deleted dimensions etc)

Interesting. I've opened extremely old files in the past, from 2006 and earlier, and other than the message about how rooms are calculated has been drastically changed, there usually aren't many problems, if any.

We typically upgrade ongoing projects at some point. I have a high-profile project nearing the end of construction now, started in 2012, which I upgraded to 2013 during construction. Haven't had any problems with it. We don't use 2012 or prior for anything, and in fact I've been removing 2012 from machines that still have it installed.
