Default Applying aerial image base in timeliner NW crashes.

Hello I imported a correctly textured and mapped image onto a ground plane and imported from 3ds max via fbx.
Image was around 1500x1500 pixels 2mg jpg approx
    2 questions.
1.I had to remap the image with the rather painful tools provided. Is there a work around?
    2. When i simulate this is timeliner the program crashes.
    any ideas?

I feel your pain and have no answers. NW2013 crashes a lot in timeliner, you could try:
    1. start new nwf and only import the terrain and image and see if it really is the cause
    2. try changing the texture space of the ground plain
Other things that cause timeliner to crash are:
    1. turning off warnings in options
    2. too many or just some problematic appearance definitions

Been a loooooooooong time since I tried this, but I managed to get an aerial photo of an airbase into my nwf file as our company was designing some of the buildings.

I can't quite remeber the exact method, but I remember two approaches.

    1. Create a shape as large as your image and export that to navisworks. Then apply a material to it. A material that uses your aerial image.

    2. import a photo into AutoCAD. Create an NWC from that file and Bring in the image in Navisworks. You may have to rotate and resize the image. You will get a somewhat blurry image when you are in render mode. You have to Render the image to get the detail.

Good luck. Hope my memory serves you.

RFB your methods both work, but you can also drape an image onto a terrain in Autocad if you turn it into a material first.
It will still require some "fixing" in Navisworks but if you keep the proportions of you image and the object it's draped onto the same it's normally just a material of scaling the resultant presenter material in Navisworks by a factor of 100.
The most hassle free way I've found to do this is through Sketchup. A draped image in Sketchup always seems to come into Navisworks perfectly.

I have had success in NW timeliner 2013 with the sketchup method. output 3ds from SU and merge.

you can just open the SketchUp file directly from Navis, no need to output a 3DS file. Just download terrain from within sketchup. Save it as sketchup version 7. and append it in navis. Works excellent done this multiple times.
