    Default Enhanced Layer Walk

Summary: Make the Layer Walk command more usefull

Description: The Layer Walk command is very helpfull in viewing the contents of each layer, picking out the elements which are on the wrong layer. But it could be the best way to fix those elements. If I view a given layer and spot something which doesn't belong there it would be nice to be able to select the items which need to be moved while in the Layer Walk command and move them to the correct layer. As it is now I have to exit the Layer Walk and go digging for the bits and pieces which need to be moved.

I really like this idea -- LayWalk is handy, but horribly limited. But, since this command started out as an Express Tool, I don't expect that the Adesk programmers will be interested in improvements that make it actually useful in production work. There's just no 'bling' factor in fixing design fubars.

It does seem like something that could be created as a dotNet customization or utility, using a palette so a user can change focus on work on the visible layer(s) without losing the original layer settings. Heck I'd pay a buck or so for it, or whatever the going rate on Exchange is.

You might be right about bling factor. BUT if enough users want it improved then they just might make the effort. I don't consider the command to be flawed they just didn't see the possibilities. Now that I think of it the fact that some users have a problem with a disappearing cursor and that problem has been around for several versions might lend credence to your less than optimistic view.
    We can but try.

I saw this wish the other day, and at the request of a friend am passing by again... I think this to be a good wish, 1+... Admittedly, my first time using the LAYWALK Command was in looking into possibly granting this wish.

To the best of my knowledge, this wish is entirely possible... Implementing the ability for a user to select entities on LAYWALK Dialog selected layers, and move them to a new layer... Given a new .NET/ARX CommandMethod Method which mimics the existing LAYWALK functionality, only as a Modeless Form/PaletteSet (WPF?). The LAYWALK Command currently uses a Modal dialog (Form), meaning that it [the Form] retains focus until closed[/I]).

AFAIK, this would need to be coded from scratch, as LAYWALK is no longer an Express Command, and is part of the core product.

Of the few Wish List Items I've been able to either grant, or work towards granting, I've not yet done something quite like this... Should I have some time in the near future (working on portathon app submissions currently), I'd definitely see some value in doing so... I'll see what I can do.

    Cheers

    Hi ho Blackbox,
How did your Portathon submissions go? Any further thoughts on improving the Laywalk command?

    Hi Donald,

Thank you for asking - I was only able to submit 3 small apps due to some external factors beyond my control, which didn't leave much discretionary time for things like this... I've definitely not forgotten about this and other wishes, and am very interested in revisiting them as soon as I can.

    Cheers
