Sheet Titles - Invalid Characters

When I try and use the sheet set manager I cannot name sheets with any of the following characters... <>/";:?*,='
This is frustrating as a lot of names of sheets have commas and forward slashes in them...
any help?

Also when I try and update the sheet set list table it changes the column widths in my table... I can't find a way to set this.

Also, I am thinking of going away from SSM as I find it very user unfriendly... i.e it does not seem to renumber sheets automatically etc and the above problems. What is the best way to link an Excel Spreadsheet to text in a DWG? I know it has something to do with fields right? How do I link the spreadsheet to the DWG?

I think your out of luck on this one. Since the title becomes the name of the file, and windows does not allow those characters.

You could make a custom property for each sheet and use that for the title instead. Not sure if that will allow those characters.

I know a couple of character workarounds:

Blank field (get rid of dashes): ALT 0160
Comma: ALT 0130

Ok, I discovered these codes work for me:

%%39 = ‘
%%38 = &
%%47 = /
%%92 = \
%%42 = *
%%61 = =

If you need more codes for unsupported characters in SSM, let me know and I can find out.

I don't know of any "character" that will force a new line, but if the field resides inside MTEXT, it will naturally wrap when it reaches the edge of the MTEXT box.

yup, and that's the problem. My sheet titles have to break where I wnt them to, not wherever the limis ofthe Mtext block happen to fall..

I had the same problem. I needed 3 lines for a title in my title block. At first I used MTEXT and let it wrap wherever it wanted to. This didn't look good so I started putting extra spaces where I wanted to force it to wrap. This worked, but it was clunky, depending on the width of the MTEXT box. I finally decided to use 3 seperate fields, one for each line. This method gives me so much more control.

So you are saying that these codes are confirmed to work in SSM where you enter the View Name? If so, hoorah! ! ! !
