Default View Title Creation: Lines controled by Extension

Summary: When I place a view, I can change the lenght of the extension line. I'd like to have a parameter within the view title family that identifies the length of this extension line.

Description: The View Title we use in Acad (used for civil site work) and what we'd LIKE to use in Revit consists of a circle with the view number in it. To the right of that is a line with the View name above it. BELOW that line is a thick line (a LWPOLYLINE with a width in Acad). And finally below that is the view scale.

The two lines need to be the same length and parallel.

I'd to have a parameter within my View Title family that tells exactly how long the extension line is. Then I could update the length of my line(s) based on this lenght.

Here's a in image of what we need it to look like. If this parameter were available, it could control the lenth of both horizontal lines.

Can't this be done with a family?

Not unless they've added it in 2014. I have 2013 and it's not possible.

Here's one of many threads talking about the inability to have this line vary.

And here's a bing search that turns up a bunch more.

Here's an image that shows what we need the view title to look like.

The view title that Revit provides includes a horizontal line (that Revit calls an "Extension Line"). I can make this line longer by dragging the grip -- I'm suggesting that the length of this line be exposed to the View Title Family as an instance parameter. That would allow me to draw my own lines.

Really old thread but this can be done. Within the View Title Family draw a line and constrain the length with a type parameter (must be type) and apply a value to this. Then load this into your project and assign the family to the viewport style and also uncheck show extension line in. Now you will not see an extension line but instead will see the line from the View Title Family. You can then make multiple types if you want different default line lengths.
