Default Just a Feature line and a corridor!

Summary: Have the ability to run a corridor assembly down a feature line, WITHOUT having to set up a alignment and profile.

Description: Imagine being able to run a retaining wall assembly down a feature line or say a curb and gutter around a parking lot! Maybe you want just a valley gutter!!

Why do we need to setup a alignment AND a profile. A feature line already has stationing and vertical elevations, this should be all you need for a true simple corridor.

How much time would be saved for onsite feature modeling when you don't need vertical curves or other tools for something so simple.

AND once we have this ability you will now be able to give your clients 3d models via real solids when you extract those assemblies with the corridor solid extraction tool!

Amen! I submitted a similar feature request. Glad this one made it to the Voting page! Seems simple enough to work into the program. Also similar to this request.

    Another option is to add a multi-line feature line object. 3D multi-line instead of a 2D multi-line.

Unfortunately, Corridors are dependent on both a horizontal alignment, and a vertical profile (plus the assembly to extrude, obviously), and does not currently accept a feature line as valid input criteria. Like you, I've never really understood this either.

While waiting for Autodesk to incorporate this into the shipping product (don't hold your breath), you may find SincPac C3D's CAPFEATURE Commands to be useful:

    CAPFeature

    Description

The CAPFeature command creates an Alignment and Profile from a Feature Line, or Survey Figure. Any curves in the Feature Line are maintained as curves in the Alignment. This command also contains an optional PVI pruning function similar to that found in the CAPSurface command.

    ...

    Example

The example below shows a Feature Line. When the Feature Line was created, elevations were sampled from the Surface. The Feature Line has been selected in the image below, and you can see all the horizontal and vertical PIs in the Feature Line indicated by blue dots.

We can now run the CAPFeature command by right-clicking and selecting "Create Alignment/Profile" from the list. After hitting OK, the program asks us to select a location for the Profile View. After selecting the location, we see an Alignment like the one shown below. Notice that all the grade breaks in the source Feature Line were ignored when creating the horizontal alignment geometry.

At the same time, a Profile is created from the Feature Line....
    Cheers

Except that a feature line has "both a horizontal alignment, and a vertical profile." A feature line has stationing and vertical elevations! That tool is great but it still doesn't simplify the process for say a parking lot or other small landdev project. This image better explains how this tool would help entice more landdev folks to start using civil 3d.

Can you provide a walk-through for this? I only see that you can now create Featurelines from a Corridor, not "attach corridor to a feature line".

The rub is that a Corridor technically has to have associated Alignment(s) and Profile(s). The feature request here is to avoid Alignments and Profiles, and use Feature Lines in their place since it has both horizontal and vertical spatial information.

SO ... this wish has been granted. Shouldn't it be removed from the voting list?
