Expand the application of Data Shortcuts

Summary: Expand the application of Data Shortcuts to anything that can be exported by LandXML and anything that is required dynamically for drawing production,

Description: Data shortcuts are the backbone of preparing production drawings with dynamic linking however their scope of application, while expanded in 2014, is not extensive enough.

ALL objects that can be exported by LandXML should be able to be dynamically linked between the design drawings and production drawings.

This includes things like parcels.

AutoDesk needs to review the production process to see where the design and documentation process can be linked better.

Has anyone got comments on this?

Our team is looking at ways of streamlining production and argue that the ability to data shortcut a corridor instead of xrefing it in would be an advantage, partcularly where they want to show corridors with different styles in different drawings.

It would be good to data reference View frames

and points.... although Map query would often be better than dref.

however, still desperately need a DREFClip

I'd still like to see the defined Surface Description, as example, in parent drawing be pre-populated when creating a DREF for same.

Also annoying to create same Site in more than one drawing. Just saying.

Which version of c3d are you using? View frames can be DREFed in at least 2013-2015. Checking 2008 even has view frame groups. Is there something extra you are looking for?

The best way to share point data is through the survey db. Check it out.

There are situations where a survey db is a good choice, and others where it's non-optimal and a better option would be MapQuery

Data shortcuts are bane of my work. I think it's probably lack of knowledge. But remember if you send me a dwg to stake for you or calc cut/fills etc, send the data shortcuts.
I am constantly receive dwg with the data shortcut source then no one seems to understand I am lacking critical info to complete my job. I have even had designers refuse to send me the data shortcut source but expect to get the data from the dwg.
