    I am using Acad 2014
Properties palette shows area and length of single polyline selection. If you have several polylines you wish to join you can use pedit -> mulitple -> join. This will create a single polyline that you can get area and length of.
With multiple polys selected Length and area show *varies*
3D polylines will only give length as area doesn't make sense when talking 3d shape.
    Hope this helps

As far as I know, this has been on the list for years.
In the meantime while you wait, grab TLEN.LSP from http://www.turvill.com/t2/free_stuff/index.htm - which will give you the TLEN command to report the total length of a selection of polylines, lines, arcs, circles, etc.

    Hi Steve
I often create multiple polylines to create room boundries and area plans. It would be very easy to just select my multiple polylines and have the total area. Instead I have to create regions with my polylines and then use the union command to join them and have area. Then I have to undo and come back to my original polylines in case I have to modify them in the future.
I just don't understand why Autodesk doesn't just add this simple feature to Autocad. Many users have been begging for this for years...
    Thanks for your help
    Anthony

Probably because it has been easily solved with lisp for years.

Or with more advanced features in industry-specific verticals like ACA.
