    Default Overlapping Families

    All,

I am trying to resolve a quandary. If I need to create a series of families that interact in a model, like a bench and a vise mounted to it, the graphics I get when using symbolic lines appear to wipe each other out where they overlap (see attached). This graphics depicts very simple rectangles set at 1-3 feet high. This makes sense given the progression of heights. Is there a way to avoid this? In the case of the bench and vise, this would be a bad thing. I want the vise to display as if on top of the bench without obscuring the bench top.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Without flat-out disabling "Draw MEP Hidden Lines", I think your best option is to make the elevated elements transparent. The means I immediately think of is to create a View Filter (applied to the appropriate Categories) that has a rule something like "Comments" "equals" "X". Add the Filter to your View(s) and then set the Transparency to 1%, and enter an "X" in each applicable element's Comments field.
