Default Erratic cursor movement Civil 3D 2012

    Hello,

I have an interesting problem with the cursor in Civil 3D 2012. The cursor jumps around wildly when the toolspace menu is open. It stops when you close toolspace.
Machine is HP Z600 2-2.13 GHz processors, 16 Gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro Graphics card (256 Mb RAM).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no change, all service packs installed.
I have changed all of the sysvariables such as rollovertips and others I have seen in previous posts, these do not change or help the situation.
    Any thoughts?

    My user is getting frustrated!

    Welcome to AUGI.

I too experienced a cursor issue with 2012 (not sure if it's the same?), where the cursor continuously 'blinked' between the actual cursor, and the Windows 'busy' cursor symbol... And I was using a certified 2GB NVIDIA Quadro video card; not sure how well the 256MB video card is helping your situation (I know they list 128MB min, but still).

If there is a solution to this issue, I never came across it, prior to upgrading to 2014... Which does not have this issue, BTW.

    Cheers

I believed it to be the video card, but now question if this is the issue after you describe a similar action with a certified card. Troubling for sure.

Does this cursor issue you're experiencing still occur when user launches the OOTB 'Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D as AutoCAD 201X' application icon?

It doesn't seem to. It only acts strangely when the toolspace is open and active in the drawing. Can toolspace be activated with this app icon? I tried it and get an unknown command error.

Civil 3D 'as AutoCAD' loads an AutoCAD-only 'vanilla' profile (see the Target Property of the application icon), whereas the Civil 3D application icon(s) obviously load a 'civil' profile (among other things), thus you will not be able to access such C3D functionality without loading an appropriate profile.

In any event, my reason for asking, was an attempt to isolate whether or not the issue is your video card; if it were, then you'd experience the same issue in a 'vanilla' profile.

    Hope that makes (more?) sense.

I understand now, unfortunately it functions normally in this app. The problem occurs only when that menu is open. I was hoping to remedy this with a better video card as most of our stations run 1 Gb video cards. Thanks for your input, I have deployed 2014 to some of our users in another office, however, this one is not ready to move up yet.

do any other 'graphically intensive' palettes have an effect? Layer Manager, XRef, Properties?

FWIW -- I'd seriously tend to blame the graphics card having limited RAM.

    cadtag,

Unfortunately, No. Toolspace is the only problem. I so want to blame the video card too! But after reading about BlackBox and his experience with a good graphics card I am not sure where I stand.

Just curious to know if you've tried disabling any video card software (i.e., an ATI equivalent to the NVIDIA Control Panel, etc.), or 'aero' theme(s) if using Windows 7, etc.?
