Default What happened to 'dsviewer' / 'Aerial View'?

    L.S.,

The command DSViewer is not found in AutoCAD 2014.

Is it removed, or has the functionality got a new name?

The help-file isn't very helpful this time. No hits on "dsviewer" nor "aerial view".

    Kind regards,
    Th. Schaars

Use the 'redefine' command. It will prompt you to enter a command to redefine. Type 'dsviewer' then try using the dsviewer command again.

This is one of my great disappointments in 2015. I had trialed 2014 before a move to 2015 and had gotten DSViewer activated. It worked a little differently from what I had been accustomed to (R14) but in 2015 it seems to no longer display the drawing so you essentially have an aerial view of a snow field.

In my opinion it was one of the most efficient ways of navigating a drawing.

Ah, I knew this rang a bell.
This was turned off in autocad in R2012.

You can still find these in the online help if you search for 'deprecated'. On the Command and System Variables entry, you can scroll to the bottom to see them.
Of course, they don't offer the advice on redefining it... I saw those on blogs.

And, Patrick, yeah, that was the first thing I taught my LT users at the hospital. We had such a giant footprint, they'd get lost in the drawings pretty easily without it.
Yes, the middle buttons for scrolling have helped, but, it's still nice to have that overview.

    MissDork.

The biggest problem I had DSViewer was when I had it on a second monitor sized to roughly 3/4 of the screen size. Every now and then I would confuse it for the drawing and wonder why my commands weren't working.

    Hi there,

By the time our company will be upgrading to a new version of AutoCAD, I hope some new smart overviewing tool will be launched that replaces this one.

To me dsviewer is a very helpful tool (on my 2nd screen), and I'm glad being able to use it again.
    Thank youl, folks!

    put a dot in front
    .dsviewer
Works on 2014 for me, although I don't think it is necessary what with faster computers and scroll wheel, etc. In 1990 it was the bomb.

REDEFINE works great for DSVIEWER command. For some reason, it doesn't work initially. With Civil3D this command is great with multiple profiles and cross sections,

Before 'dsviewer' / 'Aerial View' we used Zoom Dynamic. Still works same as it always did. Left-click to resize the window and right-click pick zoom window. REDEFINE DSVIEWER still worked in 2017 sort of, but not as good as Zoom Dynamic. REDEFINE DSVIEWER no longer available in 2018. There's been a lot of both software and hardware changes for graphics since 'dsviewer' / 'Aerial View' was the coolest new feature so many years ago.
