    Default Problem arraying symbolic lines

I have been trying to array a symbolic (glass projection) line in a window family to represent some glass louvre blades in elevation.

Before arraying the line I can constrain the length of the line by either locking it to the left and right reference planes of the window opening or by adding a parameter to make it equal to the "Width" of the opening.

Both methods work fine with just the one line.

Once I array the line vertically to fill the window void it starts to play up.

I array the line by using the "group and associate" and "move to 2nd" options. I then add a parameter to control the distance between the two lines eg. 150mm

Next I add a parameter between the two lines to calculate the total amount of line in the void.

This parameter formula is "(Height / 150 mm) - 1".

The vertical array is fine and works ok. But when I adjust the width of the opening I start getting "constraint errors" relating to the width.

Any suggestions on where I am going wrong?

Try making a detail component family for the line then load that detail family into the window family. Arrays in families seem to work best with nested components or details. You can link the parameters in the nested detail to your main family parameters and even add one for visibility.

You've associated the symbolics lines to the reference planes which are outside of the group. Either incorporate a reference plane into the array or don't lock to the reference plane and dimension off instead. Or use a nested detail component.

I was thinking about doing that.

But it is afterall it is only one single line, nothing too flash.

    Will try it now.

Thumbs up Re: Problem arraying symbolic lines

I have just brought in the line as a component as it works perfectly.

    Thanks for the help.
