Default wipeouts and background masks in paper space not working

I've got some overlay xrefs in model space along with my drawing. In paper space I have one viewport. I have some text over the top of the viewport for some notes, member schedule etc. The linework from the viewport goes through the mtext, so I tried background mask yes for the mtext, but it does nothing. I tried draw order bring to front for the mtext, no joy. I even tried manually adding a wipeout under the mtext but over the viewport. The wipeout does not show up at all.

    Any ideas?

Question Re: wipeouts and background masks in paper space not working

Does it make any difference if this is checked, vs. unchecked in your pagesetup?
    Have you tried both ways?

Thanks for the reply. I had it unchecked. With "plot paperspace last" checked, the PS wipeout now works, but the mtext background masks still don't. Puzzling, but at least now I know I can use wipeouts. Thanks mate.

I have the same problem. It was working fine yesterday too! The print looked perfect with the mask working, then for some reason today it doesn't mask? I undone the mask and redone it to see if that may have worked, but no joy.
Annoyingly in my plan view of my model it works fine. When I view the same plan in my paperspace viewport it doesn't mask? Very annoying!

    Try "FILL" and choose "ON"

I have been annoyed by this one for a long time and have tried most every suggestion posted by others on numerous threads. Nothing has worked for me.
I agree there must be some system setting somewhere to control this oddity. Until that rogue setting is found, in 2016 Autocad it finally was solved by going into modelspace of the plot file (which xrefs a mechanical model file where the background masks work fine), then using draworder to send all backgrounds and grids to rear of the mechanical xref. Oila, the background masks work.
The elimination of this extra hassle needs to go on the wishlist for the next version.

You can send to back the offending viewport
