Default Session 10, Part A: All in the Family

Instructors: Ken Marcus, RFI Consultants Inc. with David Banyard, Modulus Consulting

Class Description: This class will teach students how to build a line based Revit Casework cabinet family which allows the student to (a) choose the number of equal cabinet drawers they need based upon design needs (b) determine if they need to show a middle shelf in elevation (c) allow to cabinet doors to have a top drawer or not and select a height for the top drawer (d) choose if there is a backsplash on the counter, (e) display properly in plan, section & elevation and (f) select materials for both the counter, backsplash and cabinet doors. This family will introduce students on the use of nested families, parameters, parametric arrays and formulas.

As part of a Part 2 handout and if time permits, we will cover how to take the line-based family to the next level. In this example, we will develop a family of open upper cabinets with adjustable shelves. This family will allow users to choose the total number of open shelving units based upon the length of the upper cabinets, similar to the prior example as well as choose the number of shelves in the units. We will concentrate on how to use formulas to control not only the number of shelves but also the number of cabinets and materials
