Default DV214-2: Capturing and Acquiring Appearances of Real World Materials for Improved Accuracy in Renderings

    Instructor: Pierre-Felix Breton

Class Description: This session is for advanced and master Autodesk® 3ds Max® users who want to reproduce material samples as precisely as possible for using in a physically-based renderer such as mental ray®, V-ray® or finalRender®. Representing materials and colors accurately in CG has always been the challenge for anyone who desires to represent furniture or architectural finishes accurately. This class will focus on objective methodologies to acquire color, as well as techniques on how to estimate glossiness characteristics of material samples. The class will also demonstrate how to obtain convincing results with affordable hardware, such as digital cameras and light metering tools. Finally, the workflow for gamma correction, hardware calibration, and color-consistent pipelines will be discussed.
