    Default Locking Viewports

To lock a viewport, highlight the viewport, Rt. Click, and choose Properties <Dialog Box>; Go to Misc <Heading>, then choose "Display Locked" or highlight the viewport, Rt. Click, and choose "Display Locked" from the sub-menu.

So many times [98%] I receive files from vendors who go thru the trouble of scaling their viewports without locking them. Just in case any one is unaware of the benefits of locking your viewports:

Locking your viewports will allow you to pan in your viewport without changing the scale or view of your viewport.

I did hear a rumor though, which I have not yet taken the time to discover: Irregular shaped viewports cannot be locked....?

    Hi

    Not true.

A Polygonal Floating Viewport can be Locked.

Actually, to answer your original question

I created an irregular closed polyline, made a viewport out of it, and it locks just fine.

    Hi

Just out of interest, what part of my post did not answer the original question?

Before ACAD was capable of locking viewports, I used named views, just in case of an accidental zoom in a viewport. I used the saved view to reestablish the view.

Oooh! And have you seen what you can do with saved views in Sheet Sets? Drag n Drop, Drag n Drop.

I'll post a new thread if anyone is intrigued.

I made two custom Tool Pallete buttons. Lock all viewports, and unlock all viewports. The text behind the buttons is exactly what i would have typed on the command line. I find its quicker than right clicking .I routinely hit the lock button before entering a viewport on a drawing that I didnt draw.

    Hi guys.
I'm working on 2007 LT and after I lock a viewport and go to model space while still in the layout and try to zoom in, it zooms as if I wasn't in model, but still in paper. Is this the way it's supposed to work?
