Default 3ds max 2014 rendering issues

When rendering an interior scene in Max 2014 that's only illuminated by 3 photometric lights, I get artifacts in the form of colored squares. When I render on the Medium setting, there are a lot of bright green squares throughout the render. When rendering on a low setting, there are fewer squares and they are a less intense color. The squares are fairly large and they appear at different locations each rendering. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? I can't post the renders in this thread for some reason. The tiffs are less than 2 mb but it's telling me the file is invalid.

Can you post a screenshot so I can see exactly what's going on? Maybe your render settings as well?

Thank you for your help Phillip. The one with the green squares was rendered at medium.RENDER5.JPG

I think your problem may lie in the combination of your GI settings and reflective surfaces, where mr is trying to calculate it all. I'd try one or a combination of: lowering the bounces in your scene (maybe 2?), lower your reflection/refractions (half-ish), and i'm not sure what your environment looks like, but I might try changing your environment map (or just using fg) and see what that does... Hope this helps.

Its almost like Caustics are turned on...?

Are you using a saved FG map from a previous rendering? if so, clear the cache and you should be ok.

Change the shadow quality from 0.61 to 0.50

Also, let me pop open my standard settings (Max 2015 unfortunately)

Does your multiplier have to be at 2.5? and what are your exposure settings? (hit "8" on keyboard) and try the mr Photographic Exposure control and experiment out there.
(attached image) Whoops, except change the radio button to Exposure Value (EV) instead of photographic exposure.
