Can anyone help me with snap settings. Even though the settings for snaps are enabled when I hover over for example an end point it dosen't come up with the square to snap to. Instead if I zoom in I get an x . Does anyone know how to fix this?

Whether or not you get the "icon" showing you the intended object snap mode is a function of the AUTOSNAP system variable.
Set this to 63 and try again.
