Default Revit server vs file-based worksharing for LAN

    Hi,

We're considering deploying Revit server, but only within one office, so it would work over LAN.

Having read the documentation, Autodesk seem to recommend Revit server for multiple offices running over WAN.

In your experience, would there be any performance gain and/or other benefits to running a Revit server vs a simple NAS-based file worksharing setup ?

    FYI
Revit models : 10-600 mb (i know, different discussion)
    Team : 15
Server : fast Xeon with 1TB SSD

What benefit are you expecting by using Revit Server on the LAN?

I have not noticed much tangible benefit using Revit Server in one office, because most models still have DWG links, and other files from the network drive.
In this case Revit still relies on the Windows file system (SMB); whereas Revit Server uses IIS. IIS requires less network chatter, and can be more efficient across the WAN.

    hth.
