    Question Multiple drawings causing crash

This is a strange problem that just started yesterday. If I have more than 1 dwg open, and I try to close one of them, I get a fatal error "Unhandled Access Violation Reading (hexadecimal babble)". As long as I have "Single Drawing Compatibility" checked in Options, there's no problem, though, so it seems to be related to multiple dwg windows. In fact, I can have multiple drawings ENABLED and, as long as I only keep only one window open (which of course defeats the purpose of having multiple windows enabled) there's no problem. Has anybody else had this problem? I'm suspecting the o.s. (Windows XP Pro) at this point -perhaps a flaky Explorer.exe, but it could be AutoCAD, although I've replaced my Acad.exe with a backed up one, and the problem persists.

hmm, I don't know, just out of curiosity, what version of autocad are you running? any add-ons?

    And a few other thoughts.
How mauch RAM do you have?
Are there true type fonts in the dwgs?
    Are there xrefs/raster images invovled?
Is it specific to certain files or will any multiple windows crash?

AutoCAD 2000. No add-ons. And bottom line, nothing that's been changed just before the problem started. Completely out of the blue. I've posted in a few places, and nobody has any more of a clue than you or I, so it's reinstall time at this point. Then if the problem still persists, it's Windows XP or hardware (much less likely) that's at fault. Thanks for your response.

Do you run any third party applications????
Check your file size......I just had a file balloon to over 3mb this week when it should
be have that size. Some random code was junking up the drawing file and crashing AutoCad. Only way for me to fix the problem was to get IT to roll my file back a couple days.

Have you tried installing the Service Pack 2 (sp2) for windowsXP. This resolved some issues I had with ABS2005
