Default General strategy for authoring frame generator profiles

I would like to use a dwg such as the one available here

    http://www.tchweb.com/tchstore/produ...ble-Angle.html

to author structural shapes for use in the frame generator. What strategies should I employ to avoid problems with frame generator if I want to deign ata cases? As the simplest example, one of the first steps in structural shape authoring is selecting the default base point. I relize the word "default" probably means that I can change it when I generat ethe frame, but how should I make this selection? In the case of the site above, I assume I thould not use either of the "edges" but should I use the inner or outer "corner"? What additional issues do you suggest I pay particular attention to to aoid usage problems?

    Many thanks in advance

    Joe

By "default base point" I am guessing that you mean the center point of the sketch profile used to generate the member. For best results, this sketch should be fully constrained. When the member is generated through the Frame Generator the alignment can be modified as necessary. I have not worked with this particular vendor profiles, and as such, I am unfamiliar with their product, but I have done a lot of work with 8020 members. Most of these were authored by constraining the center point of the sketch to the origin.

I can send the idcl file if you wish to see how I approached it.

Yes, our applications seem fairly similar, although by no means identical. From what I know of those extrusions they are used to create structural framing ("skeletons") whereas the ones I will be using will create "enclosure framing" - i e between them they would have some panels to make some sealed boxes, so the "grooves" are off-center, if that makes any sense.

I would very much like to see the files you made as well as have an explanation of how they fit into the content center "ecosystem". The book I am using provides clear instructions on how to author parts but not many details on overall strategy.

With your permission I will pm you with any further questions to avoid cluttering the messageboard.

    Thanks again

How you constrain the profile to the origin is entirely up to you. I typically choose to center them and make any adjustments using FG.

Feel free to send a PM, and I'll send the idcl file and an outline of the steps I took to create it.

    Which book are you using?
