Dimstyle locked?

I've inherited some drawings that need modifying. The dimensions have the text above the dim lines and it needs to be centred. I've ttried all the options without success. Is it possible to "lock" a dimstyle so it can't be modified? I'm using Acad LT 2005.

Are you sure you are changing the correct dim style? Are there any overrides or child dim styles that might be being used? Can you post a copy of the drawing so I can take a look at it?

can't send copy of drawing, but there are no overides or child dim style.

Is the layer locked that dimensions are on? I just did a quick test, and if a layer is locked, dimstyle changes will not apply to any dims on a locked layer (never knew that before) - they did however apply to the dim that was not on a locked layer
