Angry Dimensions not shown where I want them

Reference attached image. I dimension from either the front or top view close to the object...dimension shows up a ways away. How to I fix dimension location?

    Hi dhf000.
Back in the old days, we used to put dimensions on 2D layouts like top view, side view, front view etc.
To me it looks like it has put the dimension at level 0. If you change to top view it will look fine and still communicate the desired intent perfectly.
Or move the dimension to the same z elevation and your model.

All dimensions are now created with z=0 in the current UCS so either change the UCS first to match the face or move the dimension after creation - just snap NODe to ENDpoint.

    david730766,

I am from the old days...new to 3D. How do I move the dimension to the same z elevation and your model? Thank you for your prompt help.

If you decide to move the dimension (rather than set the UCS) the easiest way is to grip edit. Click the dimension and grip one of the blue nodes. Cycle to the MOve option then pick the endpoint of the feature. My preference is to set the UCS before dimensioning. One important reason for that is you are also able to change the plane you are dimensioning in.

BTW if you are new to 3D I suggest (if you haven't) to keep your UCS Icon on at all times and get to know all of the functioning of the UCS.
