Revit for Interior design

Hello

I am new with revit. In our office we receive Revit file from Architect. What is the best practice to start the interior design work on it. Shall we link the Architect file to our own file? or just start modifying in the architect file?

In this class (AB223-2P) from AU 2010 you'll find different examples for modeling / documenting an integrated architecture and interior design project.
