    Question buying secondhand software

    Short intro.
I currently work at a company that will stop in january because my employer wants to retire.
We currently have some (old) Autodesk licences. And I'm interested in buying one from him, but i have no idea of the value.
    Can anyone here help me?

it's about the RevitLT suite 2013

    kind regards

The legal answer? Contact Autodesk and see if they will allow your company to transfer (sell) that asset to you.

I suspect they will refuse and want you to purchase a new rental option where you pay to use the software and if you stop paying, the software stops working.

Any other option is not so legal, so proceed at your own risk.

    HI
I am not sure about Revit with C3D the only transfer of license is if you buy out the company then you buy their assests.

Well I contacted my reseller a while back and he said it can be done. I'm just have a difficult time finding the correct value for the product.
My current employer wants €400,-, but in my opinion that's way overpriced for a product he bought 5 years ago for €1850,-

With all due respect, it's not up to your reseller, it's up to Autodesk.

And for a version that old, I highly suspect they are going to refuse in order to get you on the current rental plan.

Well, if the OP is in the EU, then reselling used software is legal, and Autodesk must comply (grudgingly maybe) with providing proper authorization to run the software. Probably some extra special hoops to jump through, but in the end they will do it.

(now you know why rental software is their new thing....)

Consider that the current version is roughly $1,000 (The cost of a 3-year rental), and that it's 4 years old.
You can rent it for a year right now for for $360, and at the end of that year, it would be a 5 year old version, so I'd say about 1/5 of what might be a perpetual license cost (it that were available), or $200 (±€185?)

But the value to you and the value to him may be way different.

    Just my 2 cents....
