    Default LT copyclip issue

When I copy to the clipboard, or copy with base point to clip board, it usually works fine only once per drawing session. After that there is a delay after the copyclip command, then when I paste nothing shows up. However, the items that I copied show up on the block list and can be inserted as a block. Over time the list of blocks grows with block names that start with "A$......", sometimes there can be hundreds of them. I can purge the extra blocks, but I can only solve the copyclip problem by closing and restarting LT.

    Running LT on windows 7.
Also have AutoCAD 2007 on the same machine, but not necessarily running at the same time as LT.

    Any thoughts?

Before you copyclip something, open Windows Explorer, go to the address bar, and type in %temp% and press enter.
    That is your %temp% folder.
Now place the window where you can see it, and sort the files by date, newest at the top.

Now copyclip something, you will see a new file in that folder with a name like A$C5D915F28.DWG.
That is the data you just copied.
    How large is the file?

As you keep copying data to the clipboard, keep watching this folder and the file sizes of these new files.

When you come to one that you paste in and nothing shows up, open the corresponding A$C5D915F28.DWG file and examine it. Is it empty too?

    thanks for the reply.

Watched the temp file as suggested. I copied a room floor plan, the temp file size was 4617K, then copied a small section (far fewer objects) the temp file size changed to 4506K, then copied a single line and the temp file size changed to 4490K; quite large for a single line. None of these copies would paste, but if I tired to paste them they would show up in the list of available blocks.

another reply suggested a problem with the video card. I'm running a NVidia Quattro K4000 and see little evidence of problems.

    Any thoughts?

Zip and post one of these 4Mb files here

I suspect they are full of one of the three known bloat items of DWG files.

This has nothing to do with your video card.

here's a temp file that contains just one line, but is over 4000K in size.

As I suspected, it (and any drawing this has touched) contains 4MB of garbage bloat, AKA DGN linetype Bloat.

You need to apply the patch, and then clean all drawings that contain this garbage. Until you apply the patch, copy+paste includes this bloat (as you have seen).
But unfortunately, there is no patch for LT.

So you could go grab a 30 day trial of AutoCAD 2017 and use the built-in -purge command to clean your files. But if you ever receive one that contains this bloat, and continue to use 2012LT, it will likely just spread around again.
