Default Cant change vertical datum in Map 3D

I'm creating a surface from a small set of points. When I select the point file I choose US feet for the Z-unit but from that point on Map treats the elevations as if they're meters. For example, when i generate 1' contours the labels are .0304, .0609, .9144 etc. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

What are the dwg units set as and what coordinate system are you using?
