Angry Layer State Pull-Down Control Not Displaying Named Layer State

See attachment to view my Layer States pull-down control. Upon choosing a Named Layer State from the Layer States pull-down control, instead of the Named Layer State being displayed, "Unsaved Layer State" is shown. The effect of the Named Layer State occurs, but why is my Named Layer State not shown on the pull-down?

That's as designed. Otherwise it would have to constantly monitor all the properties of every layer in the drawing to check for changes. As long as it works why waste any more resources that would only slow AutoCAD down?

I get that the name of the layer state in the pull-down will change to "Unsaved Layer State" if I change any layer property AFTER choosing a named layer state from the pull-down. But shouldn't the pull-down show the current named layer state until I do? It should be obvious the great benefit in being able to see the name of the current layer state in effect, for the same reason you always want to see shown on a pull-down, the current layer name, the current text style name, the current dimstyle name, & so on.

By the way, I don't understand AutoCAD's tooltip for explaining the column titled "Same as DWG" in the Layer States Manager. Maybe that has an effect on my problem.

    Thanks

Do you have your AutoCAD 2015 fully patched? I'm not able to reproduce what you are referring. Can you confirm your version number (at the commandline type ABOUT <enter> then report back what shows up after the J in the top left of the dialog box.
Just to also let you know, I cant reproduce this in 2017 either.
Here is a screencast in 2015:

If the layer state has all the drawing layers in it the layer state name will continue to be displayed until layer properties are modified.

All the ones I use are for handling groups of layers so the layer state does not continue to be displayed.

    Product Version: O.49.0.0 AutoCAD 2018

In the Layer States Manager list of my Named Layer States, the value for the column titled "Same as DWG" is No.
All my Layer States were created on the Model Tab.

Your 2018 needs to be updated to the most recent version. Why is your thread listed as version 2015?
Update your autocad, restart your computer, shoot a screencast of your workflow and paste a link to it here.

I should have put 2018 in the version starter thread. Although I do use 2015 on another computer and the same problem occurs.

I downloaded the 2018 version only 7 weeks ago.

Does my Product Version number indicate I already need an update?

Could someone clarify AutoCAD's tooltip for explaining the column titled "Same as DWG" in the Layer States Manager?

Add a new Layer State, and open the Layer States Manager and the value for the column titled "Same as DWG" will be Yes. The new layer state name will continue to be displayed until layer properties are modified.

Your other Layer States simply don't include all the layers in the drawing. Therefore they cannot match all the drawing layers.

2018.0.2 has been out for 3 weeks or so. It can be downloaded from your Autodesk account management page
