    Default Anybody using AutoCAD Electrical?

    Hello all,
I am a professor at a community college in Bakersfield, California, and I teach a class on how to use AutoCAD electrical. I have talked to the industry partners in our area (mostly oil-related) and they all use vanilla AutoCAD to create their circuit diagrams.

Is there anybody still using AutoCAD electrical? What industry are you in?

    Thanks,

    Klint

I work for an engineering consulting firm in Cleveland, Ohio. I use it all the time. The extent of use, regarding it's features, varies based on the project.

I work for an ELectrical Engineering firm doing Plant Automation. We couldn't do without it. We have recently done all the control panels, HMI & programming for some new plants food manufaturing companies. The control panels for the plants number from 5 dozen to just under 300 for the largest ice cream manufacturing plant in the world. It would be difficult to manage that many control panels without AutoCAD Electrical. I see a lot of companies using it too, although a lot of them have a poor understanding of it's true capabilities and use only the most basic functions, as configured out of the box.

We are a Controls Integration company primarily serving water/waste water projects. We have a UL listed panel shop. All our design drawings are in electrical. Our engineers use LT but the 2 of us that do panel design use it exclusively for projects and Panel design. I just did a project with 519 prints in one project containing about 30 panels. It saves so much time in panel and schematic design. We don't generally build the same panel twice so our work flow is different than it would be as an OEM but it saves us probably 20% on a project versus using just AutoCAD.
