Alignment tool won't snap to blocks with hatch (solid fill)

I have created multiple dynamic blocks (DB). They work great! Recently, I was asked to put shading in my DB for my ductwork. All works well except for the alignment tool will not align perpendicular to another block with a solid hatch. I've tried to bring the lines around the hatch to the front with draw order. Still no worky.

Anyone encounter this issue or have a work around?

I have attached a drawing with my dynamic blocks to test.

Can you explain a little more regarding what workflow you are using. I'm not sure what you mean by the 'alignment tool'. Are you talking about the ALIGN command?

My blocks have the alignment parameter built into the block. With the blocks already inserted into the model space. Click on a DB, then grab the alignment parameter and drag it next to the side of the block you want it to align with. When trying to align the block does rotate or flip to the correct orientation.

The only workaround I've found so far is to turn off the PATT layer while inserting or using the alignment grip.
