    Default 2019 or not?

    Just looking for some info.

has anyone upgraded to the new C3D 2019?

    how do 2016, 2017 & 2018 work in 2019?

right now we work in 2016, but looking to move to the 2019 version.
will be keeping 2016, not sure about the others.

    any thoughts or advice?

    thanks

different dwg format, different c3d object, forwards compatibility, but not backwards

    What @cadtag said.

This image needs to be updated, but just consider 2019 another new, independent version.

I don't think it's a matter of "what version should you be using". You should use whatever fits the project. If your client, or sub is using 2015, then you need to use 2015 (unless you can all upgrade to a newer common version)
I've seen a lot of people use whatever they have, and then at the end of the project, realize someone needs files in XXXX format, and then it's a scramble to do a LOT of extra work to provide this.

    Civil 3D 2019 Help http://help.autodesk.com/view/CIV3D/2019/ENU/
    Map 3D 2019 Help http://help.autodesk.com/view/MAP/2019/ENU/
    AutoCAD 2019 Help http://help.autodesk.com/view/ACD/2019/ENU/

Still using Civil 3D 2018.2 here, we usually wait til after the first Service Pack to install new versions.

    According to: Autodesk® Civil 3D® 2019 Readme - Autodesk Knowledge Network https://knowledge.autodesk.com/suppo...C87F1-htm.html

Autodesk Civil 3D 2019 uses the AutoCAD 2018 drawing format.
Drawings saved in Autodesk Civil 3D 2019 can be opened in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018.
Fixed vertical curves created with the Fixed Vertical Curve (Parabolic, High/Low Point, Parameter, Length) and Fixed Vertical Curve (Circular, High/Low Point, Parameter, Length) commands are not backward compatible with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018.

    thanks for the feedback everyone.

so do y'all keep the older versions in the event a client is using an older version? or requires it in that version?

i'm sure it's a company by company philosophy that would dictate that, but I am curious.

as a survey and civil engineering company, we don't typically share our electronic files that often, however we do receive files from others for use in projects.

According to what I just read in the knowledge.autodesk link provided above, 2018 and 2019 use the same file version and are able to open each others drawing files without conversion. Its not 100% compatible as obviously 2018 can't interact with any new ability that 2019 added to the file. I haven't tried it so I'd like to know how true this is.
