Hello All,
I’m using Inventor 2020 and trying to create a sheet metal transition piece out of 14 gauge (0.0751”) stainless sheet. The transition is 4” long. One end is an ellipse with the major axis being 6.38” and the minor axis being 6”. The other end is an 8” diameter circle. I've attached a pdf file with this text and some screen captures. I've also attached the ipt file.
I sketched the ellipse on the XZ plane and 8” circle on a work plane 4” away.
I used “Patch” to create a surface between the ellipse and the circle.
I used “Thicken” to create the transition (shown below). I “thickened” inward.
I used “Convert to Sheet Metal” and set the Sheet Metal Defaults.
I used the XZ plane to create a sketch and projected the Y axis and the outer ellipse on the sketch. I created a point on the ellipse and horizontally constrained it to the projected Y axis point.
When I try to Single Point “Rip” the piece, I select the outer surface as the Rip Face and regardless of the Gap Value or the Rip Direction I specify, I can’t select the point on the sketch. FYI, I’ve also tried creating the Rip Point at both ends and between the two ends without success.
Anyone know how to get this to work or create the transition a different way?
Thanks for your time and help.
