Windows XP vs Windows 2000

Our Corporate office is dictating that all desktops should be Windows XP. However I'm getting feedback from our AutoCAD users that Windows 2000 is a preferred platform for AutoCAD 2004-2006. Does anyone have any evidence to support this?

I have had no problems running 2k4, 2k5, LDDT or Civil 3D under Windows XP.

You have to factor in that W2K will be retired shortly and that M$ have announced that no new service pack will be released for W2K. They will release some security patches but not to the extent of the XP roll out. This has not to be taken that W2K is more secure than XP.

As for AutoCAD, it has been XP approved since AutoCAD 2004 and there are very few complaint about compatibility.

Just make sure it's locked down and you shouldn't have to many problems. Run the account with the minimal priviledges and you should be good to go.

At work we are in the process of moving from Windows 2000 to Window XP, so far we have not experienced any AutoCAD related issues / problems with this move (I've been using it for a few months now).

At home I run Windows XP SP2 and AutoCAD 2005 SP1 without any issues / problems.

Just got back from Inventor 10 launch, 2k6 has W2k as minimum OS. Suggests to me this could be the last version to be like that, though (my personal opinion only.)

Not sure if this will matter to you, but I did read in the paper here that Microsoft is at it again and we will see a completely new operating system hitting the shelves ala early 06.
It has been said to be as big a jump as when windows 95 was first introduced. Wait??
