Summary: The filter needs to have more power.

Description: The filter is powerful, it can help select many things, but it could be even better. The filter can currently only filter down to the category level (like Structural Framing). It would be improved by being able to filter by additional criteria like Structural Framing on Level Mezzanine.

Perhaps a better example of what you want? You can already do what you describe now.

You are correct that it can be done with filters for a view, however the Selection Filter has none of those capabilities. It is possible to create a view that covers the entire range of the model then create the view filter, but that is time consuming and would be unnecessary if the Selection Filter could do more.
I'm suggesting that this selection filter should do more, instead of just one category, it should be able to expand that category and select family and then type.
