Default Surface Pattern in a New Family

How do you add a surface pattern in a new generic family that doesn't have the pattern you want/need?

In the family editor, with your family open and current, on the Manage ribbon tab, on the Settings panel, choose the Additional Settings tool to deploy the drop-down menu. Then choose the Fill Patterns tool to create or modify a pattern in the family.

Or, if you have another family or project file that already has the Fill Pattern you want, you can open both your family file and the file with the pattern in the same session of Revit and then use the Transfer Project Standards tool to transfer the Fill Patterns from the source file to your family file.
