Default Importing a shape file and actually seeing it in the drawing

    Hello all,
I import shape files from the USGS Stream Stats web site. However sometimes this works and sometimes it does not. When I connect to the data (using the Manage Data Content in the Display Manager-in map 3D) I can connect to the data ok and I see the imported layer listed in the Display Manager but I cannot always find the imported shape anywhere in the drawing. The software says it adds the shape data as an added layer, but I do not see any added layers in the Layer Manager. Although these Display Manager layers could be different. I just need the data in my drawing so I can manipulate it. I have tried disconnecting the data and reconnecting but that gets me nowhere and I have tried rebooting Acad with no luck.
    Any help vastly appreciated.
    TT

If you just want regular old CAD entities, use MapImport, not Data>Connect.
