    Default Layer Locking association to transparency

    What is causing the X-Refs to go to some kind of very faded transparency when I lock the layer its on?

    Check your LAYLOCKFADECTL and XDWGFADECTL sysvars.

    For the dialog users:
    Options/Display/Fade control
    and
    Layer Properties Manager/Layer Settings(gear in upper right)/Lock and fade
