Fields from Autocad
Summary: The ability to insert into any text location a Field that could return any data stored in any object, view, sheet, or project data.
Description: Autocad incorporated Fields several years ago. By pressing Ctrl+F you can instert a field into any text. This field can then be linked to any object and return any data contained in that object. For instance, you could have a Field Region(hatch) and put text over the top of it with a field in the text that would indicate square footage, Line weight, or hatch style, or all of it. You could have notes on the side that incorporate fields that are linked to view and return the detail number and sheet number that the view is located on. Revit incorporates several tags and parameters for accessing the data that is contained in the BIM objects, but these are restrictive and require the right tag for the right object and limit the data or information that can be displayed. Fields would provide a clean solution for accessing the data in revit in ways that designers need that Autodesk hasn't thought of(or may never think of). If you can see it in properties, i should be able to display it.

Re: Fields from Autocad
Here a just a few ideas for this:
A wall tag that displays the height of the wall in addition to the wall tag or type
A door tag that displays the room numbers of both rooms it borders
A Curtain wall elevation where the text is linked to the type of glazing in the window
