    Default custom break line family

Hi Everyone, new to the forum. My firm has a custom break line with curved lines rather than the typical Z shape near the middle. Below is an image:

Sometime in the past this was created (I'm assuming) based off the standard Revit break line. So it is fully functional with a masking region and jag size parameters.

What we have been asked to do is to make the family more like an annotation object. Meaning regardless of the view scale it would be uniform on every sheet and print.

Any helpful ways to accomplish this would be much appreciated.

If you make the Family from the Generic Annotations Family Template then the family will always scale with the view so that when printed they will be the same size no matter what view it is placed in. The Generic Annotation family does not allow grips but you can still have parameters to control the sizing if need be.

You can nest a detail component of your custom shape into the break line family and it will look the same regardless of scale. I've (hopefully) attached the family my firm uses for reference.

OK, we rebuilt the family within the generic annotation and the parameters do not work. We have the parameters, masking region & line work tied to reference lines. It's strange because everything flexes in the family but once loaded to a project modifying the properties does not do anything. We would need to change the line length and masking depth almost every time this family is used and editing / duplicating the family is too time consuming.

Although the annotation family does seem to scale with the view so in that regard the test was a success. Perhaps we should just look at a different annotation family that allows for grips.

It looks like your masking region isn't changing in the project because it's not aligned and locked to your reference planes. The need for grips is why I went with a line based detail component. It doesn't scale but you can drag it around all you want. You might try making break symbols of different sizes and use visibility parameters related to the scale of the drawing to turn them on and off. It's not automatic scaling but it might get you where you want to be.
