Default Trying to create a family that repeats nested families in two directions

I work for a contractor that, among other things, installs raised access floors. We have Revit families for each of the components that make up the raised floor system. When building our coordination model, it can be really time consuming to place each component (panels, pedestals, etc.) every 2' each direction. My last one was a 150.000 SF casino, so even using array copy takes forever. I want to be able to draw the outline of the area where I want to place the access floor and have the components populated at the correct spacing and locations. It would be loosely similar to placing an acoustical ceiling. I'd like to be able to shift the placement of the modules within the floor system if needed like you can with an acoustical ceiling, if needed.

I know you can nest families in a line-based generic family and do something similar in one direction, but is there a way to do this in two directions?

You can do this by creating the panel family, then nesting it into the array family in the length direction, then taking that family and nesting it into the array family for width and within that family you can then control the size of panel and specify the overall length and width and have it fill the arrays based on that. Basically you array the array of panels in the host family and make sure to link all your parameters through to the host.

Unfortunately you cannot shift the individual panels as they are in the family and arrayed. The best option would be to just use multiple of your desired family to break the space into several different areas to be able to leave gaps that can then be filled in with custom panels.
