    Default Selection

My way of selecting groups is to click and drag window. I hold the shift key down while selecting what needs to removed from the selection group. Now shift will not remove objects from the selection group anymore.

How can I get that function back?

Make sure that PICKADD is set to 1 or 2. The default is 2.

This will not deselect if in Map 3D MAPIOPTIONS [General] tab "Shift+Left Click Image Select" is turned on.

I run into this problem when I have images imported in. The solution that works, is as Tom stated, uncheck the box that says "Shift+Left Click Image Select" form the MAPIOPTIONS command.
