Best practice to create a surface from AECC_CONTOUR lines?

Under surface definition the option to add data from objects there is a option for contour data, check the box to minimize flat areas. This is almost always the last resort for me to create surface, it is the least accurate method there is. Rarely do the new contours follow the old without a lot of manipulation.
