    Default Importing GIS topography

I just had a conversation where I was told that if I saved a database file to my C: drive then used the command mapimport that the object data (Z_elev) would be recognized by Civil 3D for building the surface.

In other words, no manually assigning elevation to the polylines.

Can someone point me to the most effective way to import Z data from GIS sites?

    AeccCreateSurfaceFromGISData

Create Ground Data ribbon tab, pick Surfaces, then "Create Surface from GIS Data"

May not be a survey grade surface, (GIGO rules) but is fast
