    Default getting started

what's the best practice for starting a pipe network after selecting all your parts.
i.e., can you set the starting invert of the first manhole/catch basin before continuing to the next?
where do you set the slope you want to use.

or do you draw everything and then come back and revise everything the way you want it to be.

just not sure how to get started from scratch

Do you have any Rules for Cover and Slope assigned to your pipes? Do you have a surface to associate with your pipe network?

After you have those assigned, it is recommended to start from your upstream location. The Cover and Slope rule prefers to hold minimum slope over optimal cover.

A process I find helpfull, can be used for any pipe network type
is to create feature line on the surface, and then lower it to the deried depth

then use the create network from object command...
there is a bit more, just note that it's a pretty direct way to evaluate the pipe run prior to creation
including projecting the feature line into a profile along the pipe alignment to evaluate deflection points, etc
